Talking about the darkest point of the marathon this week... Mile 21! 😱
There’s a scene in the famous Scottish Play, where Macbeth, having murdered his king and his best friend in a bid to gain power, has invited a load of people round for dinner, to celebrate his new kingly status. To begin with, he’s trying to act normal, play it cool. Unfortunately though, every time he sits down to eat, his best friend’s ghost appears and he freaks out. Lady Macbeth, aware that her whole evening, shit.. her whole new life as queen, is rapidly slipping away, bundles everyone out, leaving her raving loony of a husband ranting about “strange things I have in head”. This scene is not completely dissimilar to Mile 21 of a marathon. The “strange… self-abuse” that Macbeth speaks of is evident all around, as pale and haggard runners stumble around with a wild look in their eyes, thinking to themselves, as Macbeth did, sod it, I’m “stepp’d in so far that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as going o’er”. There’s a lot of morbid self-examination at this point of the race. You’re fully committed. You’ve slain the king. And there’s just no turning back.
Tracking Kelda on YB Tracking app is ace! She seems to have really gotten into her stride over the past 12hrs and app data is saying she’s been rowing at 1.7knots. Amazing! She’s showing us life is not about saying ‘I can’t’ but about saying ‘How can I?’ 👏 .

Today was cold enough that I actually even wore a jacket! (Which hardly ever happens!) Even so, it was still another lovely 'easy' 10km commute in! So much nicer than taking the tube! 😄
Ive posted this exercise before, however I thought I’d try challenge my self and add the resistance band and 3kg (mainly because there isn’t a 12kg bar at The Gym) BUT Yh! ———————————————————————— Second video: Before I videoed this I did a set of clean and press’s because I wanted to see if I could do that with a 20kg barbell, turns out it was easy but I got tired so that’s why the tech looks janky getting it up. THATS WHEN I THOUGHT LETS AV IT THEEENNN! My food philosophy🌱: Intermittent Fasting⏱
There are so many diets to help you lose weight, but most of them take out any enjoyment of food and leave you hangry and craving anything and everything ‘naughty’. My answer to this: intermittent fasting🗝
Intermittent fasting works by not taking in any calories for 16-18 hours a day and eating all your food in the remaining time. Fast for 16 hours: eat in an 8 hour window, fast for 18 hours: eat in a 6 hour window. Simple! Think of it as skipping one meal a day; breakfast seems to be the easiest. If you finish eating your dinner at 8pm, just don’t eat until 12pm the next day. Time for lunch!🍳 Water, black coffee and black tea are fine to have during your fast as that they have no caloric value.
Fasting causes your body to go into ketosis; the process of breaking down fat into ketones for energy👊🏼 If you’ve ever bought fat burning teas, they are promoted because of the raspberry ketones in them. Something your body makes it’s own version of! If you’re restocking your body with food and calories every few hours, then you will constantly burn the energy from those foods. Skipping one meal a day allows your body to go into ketosis and make use of it’s fat stores for energy🔥
✅Increases weight loss
✅Increases energy levels
✅Reduces overall hunger
✅Improves brain health
✅Improves insulin sensitivity
(If followed correctly, fasting can cure Type 2 Diabetes in as little as ONE month!)
It’s so much more than just a weight loss tool🙌🏻 -
I’m not saying start fasting for 18 hours every day from now. That’s unrealistic. Start fasting one day a week and gradually build it into your routine. It’ll take you longer to feel hungry and you’ll learn what real hunger feels like; those 10am rumbles are fake news!! Stick it out, you’ll be surprised how quickly the hunger resides.

Day 2 of RIAC and I managed to put the chimp back in the cage. My match started ok with a couple of 100 strings and then naturally I fluffed it in the 4th and 5th and finally in the 6th string I pulled it out the bag with a 104.
It was a hard match but I learnt a lot about how to get in the right headspace :)

In other random news - My boys and I have discussed at length the sad plight of Tuesday. Tuesday is kind of a nothing day. It’s not the first day of the week. It’s not the hump that says we’ve made it half way. It’s not Friday-eve, and it’s definitely not the weekend. So what is poor Tuesday?🤔 .
Anyhoo... 4 miles today, 4 weeks & 4 days til #charlestonmarathon 💃🎉🤸♂️ Also, 4 is my sister’s lucky number 🤷♀️ and look at all the 4’s in my run stats today! I think that’s a very good sign!!!🤪 Come on Chicago!!!🤞🤞🤞
