To begin the week, we have a very good friend of ours Abhijit Kumar @mogaambokhushhua , a avid runner and true champion. Here is the journey of Abhijit from a sprinter to Ultra runner.
My running journey began way back in school in Vadodara when I ran short distances (100m and 200m) between the ages of 12 and 15. I took naturally to that short burst to the finish line and made it to district and state levels.
Long distance running was something I just couldn’t manage back then. I then dabbled in other sports and then in 2015 I started cycling out of the need to remain active. Somewhere in the mid of 2016, I ventured to the Nagalapuram hills with Peter Van Geit and Chennai Trekking Club for a two day cycling trip. This was the first time I met these vibrant, bursting-with-energy folks. This was July 2016 and by October 2016 I was at the starting line of my official run of any kind- the Malnad Ultra 50k. I completed it in time much to my surprise. After that I did my official 10k, 21k and eventually the 42k.
My official running history is very poor – 2-10K, 2-21K, 1-42K, 2-50K, 1-75K, 1-80K, 2-100K+. Over the last two years, running has become my form of meditation, wherein I like to get lost in the process and seek answers of real life from my running experiences. I focus more on the experience of races rather than the timings while pushing myself to earn the medal. The race is always with myself and I totally enjoy solo running on a day to day basis. In a race however, I look forward to meeting and knowing new people and their experiences while running. Chennai Trekking Club has played a huge role in giving me the push to discover this aspect, along with the zeal to keep exploring and I will be ever thankful to Chennai Trekking Club for that.
Sunday’s ain’t my favorite day, in more than one sense🙁 Not only is it the last day of the weekend, it is also the day of the week when I return A to her mum’s. It always breaks parts of my heart in millions of small pieces, but she will be just fine there, as always.
On the good side this Sunday is that my ”Unable-to-go-running-runstreak” ended on day 4. I caught a bad cold beginning of this week that has ruled out any physical activity until now. So tonight I ran, and it felt great!! Easy, low pulse and with no uneasy breathing or anything🙏🏻
Good to be back on track💪🏻
Tomorrow I will celebrate and praise my awesome and fantastic @niarunssmiling ❤️ on her übercool acheivement - running 500 days in a row!! What a streak🏆
Until then - have a great day, everyone!
12 awesome k’s tonight!
#marathonnumber10 = a 2018 dream come true #7gmarathon 🇩🇪
(seven mountain marathon)
Sunday 09 Dec 2018 Bad Honnef #siebengebirge 🇩🇪 (Bonn Rhine region) 🎬 10 am 7°C 44°F Elevation 650 m/2132 feet 👉 Cool, drizzly morning with some dry stretches of pine forest paths 🌲 dry shoes...UNTIL KM16/MILE 10 🌧 🏃 heavy rain cooling down my body kept me running (not to freeze) 🌧 rain water streams down the hill paths, rain drops cascading from my hat 💧💧for at least the next 5 miles/8km...Fortunately we run quite often in the rain, in the Netherlands, so this one didn't scare me, although I didn't dare speeding down hills.
Big smile when I saw the 35km mark at Mile 21😀 the rain had stopped. No specific pains, just the usual marathon struggle. I knew I could finish #marathon10 - my 7th of 2018 - 4:43:58 proud of this time, in this weather conditions!!
👉26.2/42km through breathtaking, mountainous pine forest paths🌲🌲🌲🌲this so called 'sevenmountain marathon' could as easily be called 'seventy hills mountain-marathon' --holy guacamole!! Never have I run in such an endless pine jungle, the brown yellowish Fall leaves covering the steep slopes, all the way down...at some stretches you could hear the moderate wind singing its way through the awesome coniferous forest 🌲🌲🌲
👉 on the map this German mountain region, (Bonn area) looked small, a piece of cake, I thought, but then I realized that the race was just as long as running 42km of West & East Berlin!! What!!Seriously!! 😱🤣 and, in fact, we ran from North Rhine Westfalia, to this neighboring State of Rhineland Palatinate, to the South! --this spot 👆 doesn't do justice to the dense, tall pine wood forest which dominates most of the marathon course.
Happy miles😆 4.34 recovery miles // 9:46 pace. Shane suggested I run to the rec center and he would meet me there with Frank. Quick walk with the boys after. I had the trails to myself this morning and it was wonderful! Now onto a day of cleaning and meal prepping.
Thumbs up, but not quite the result I was hoping for, but a PB is a PB! I managed to knock 17 secs off my previous best to record 31.07 - satisfying - but not the dream sub 31!
I went off pretty hard - trying to stick with my pal @alexbampton who I thought was the perfect person to follow given his recent form but the group he was attached to was going pretty damn quick - too quick! But there wasn’t another group behind so I was committed! We went through 5k in 15.09 which - despite the downhill opening 500m - was crazy fast for me! I gradually lost contact with the group and from there it was a question of digging deep and trying to hold it together. I tried to stick with the guys coming past me who had got their race craft right 🙄!!! After a horrendously painful final couple of Ks I crossed the line in 31.07. At the time I was a bit gutted. I still am..... pleased to run that quick having got the race so wrong but annoyed that I missed a great opportunity to go sub 31. Oh well, a PB is a PB and when I do break that 31 it will be even sweeter! 👊🏃👍
Well done to loads of #cheltenhamharriers who smashed their PBs today, including Alex B who smashed a 30.29 👊👊! So good to see the groups efforts paying off 👍. A special mention to my duathlon buddy @al_doh1 who rounded off a spectacular year with another PB!!! Well done pal!! .
